What's Under The Layers Of Gallego's Lazarus?
The 15th century painter, Fernando Gallego, is perhaps most well known for his painting of Lazarus in the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Ascension in Spain. It is the altarpiece there and has recently been studied to see how Gallego worked and how he might have instructed his assistants. X-rays show that he did a more sophisticated paint-by-number system with his apprentices.
